Chelsea have been all over Rennes Goalkeeper from Ligue 1 for the past two weeks or more and while multiple reports including report from Sky Sports Journalist Fabrizio Romano previously claimed that the deal is already done since about a week ago, we are yet to see any official announcement.
The announcement and paperwork may not be coming but certainly, the Goalkeeper will join Chelsea soon, this we know for sure as Rennes coach already comfirmed earlier last week that the goalkeeper was leaving plus reports that he has already said goodbyes to his teammates.
Apparently, the delay is because both team, Rennes & Chelsea couldn’t reach a precise agreement. While Chelsea were ready to pay €22 for Mendy, Rennes wanted nothing less than €25m.
Well, there is goodnews now! According to the latest report from RMC, Chelsea and Rennes have now finally reached an agreement and a reported fee of €24m + €6m bonuses was agreed between both clubs and the player is set to undergo his medical at Berlin due to Covid-19 regulations in England.
With this latest agreement, the official announcement is now more imminent than ever.
Chelsea were terriblly affected by the lack of a commanding and reliable goalkeeper last season as Kepa often let cheap goals in without putting more effort so Mendy is expected to join the club immediately after all paperwok is complete with Kepa is already showing this season that nothing has actually change in him from last season.
Most report even claims that the continued underwhelming performance of Kepa pushed Chelsea to agree the amount as they were initially hoping to get Mendy for €20m later on but all signs shows that there’s no more time to waste as points are already passing by after Chelsea’s loss to Liverpool yesterday.
Mendy is now expected to be officially signed before the end of this week and avoid any covid-19 quarantine rules to enable him join the Chelsea’s squad as quickly as possible.
