Match preview

It’s a pretty jampacked fixtures for all clubs these days and tonight we take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup round of 16 after playing a draw against West Brom on Saturday evening but who are we to complain when Tottenham Hotspur have a Europa League match on Thursday, just less two 48hrs after.

What to expect

Tottenham’s manager Jose Mourinho said in his press conference that tonight’s match is not important for him or rather is of less importance to the club that his Thursday’s fixture.

Jose Mourinho on Chelsea tie tonight:

What would you do in my position? I would like to fight for the Carabao but I don’t think I can. We have a game on Thursday that gives us not as much money as the Champions League, but the group phase of the Europa League gives us a certain amount that for a club like us is very important. It’s a competition with a possible group phase that gives us a good chance to go through to the next knockout stage, so this game on Thursday is very important for us.

This might just be another one of typical Jose Mourinho’s mind games or he might actually be serious and feild his acedemy players tonight.

In any way, we expect an exciting match tonight. The Chelsea vs Tottenham London derby is always thrilling no matter the competition because of the rivalry between both teams.

Also, forgetting all what has been said, Jose Mourinho or Frank Lampard would want to get their hands on any trophy possible this season so don’t expect a walkover from either side.

injury update

Lampard confirmed in his press conference yesterday that Ziyech and Pulisic will not be available for the match as they are still gaining fitness while, Mendy, the new goalkeeper will be available for selection along with Ben Chilwell who have been active in training.

Expected Lineup

Unlike Mourinho Lampard didn’t say anything like taking the game for granted so we expect a really competitive lineup from him tomorrow. However, we expect him to rest some key players who have been playing heavily lately.

The likes of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz for instance might start from the bench while Ruben Loftus Cheek gets a chance.

  1. I do not see any reason for not bringing pulisic and ziyesh in maybe when the time is going. Like 85 or 80 min
