Summer transfer remains the biggest and most respected transfer market in the world of football. Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid was tipped to replace Chelsea big money signing of 2018 Arrizabalaga Kepa.
Kepa was seen as the solution to the previous no so good goalkeeping which saw fans banishing Thibaut Curtios leaving the club, but surprisingly after performing greatly in 2019 season which saw Chelsea winning the Europa league title, he dropped form drastically and Chelsea have began to look for a replacement. Oblak was considered as a better competitor looking at his last performance for three seasons now, Notwithstanding Peter Cech who is now Chelsea board member and co-employer Marina brought on Édouard Mendy instead last summer to help cover Kepa’s unending woes but not necessarily as a permanent replacement.
Checking the statistics between Mendy and Oblak, in the Premier league Mendy has 15 cleansheet already from thirty three appearance for Chelsea and 6-7 cleansheet in European toughest competition, the Champions League while Oblak has 14 cleansheet from 28 Laliga games and 3 cleansheet from the Champions league.
Now that’s a quite incredible instant impact from Mendy.
Questions now is, have Chelsea found such Goalie they wanted before now from Edouard Mendy?… Should we still go ahead and make a bid for Jan Oblak next summer?
