Chelsea have reportedly joined the race for Everton forward Richarlison, with Thomas Tuchel keen to hijack Antonio Conte’s attempts to lure the Brazilian to north London this summer.
Richarlison became the saviour of Everton’s season in 2021/22, with his five goals in their final 10 games helping the Premier League’s longest-serving club stay in the top flight for another season.
The Toffees are now facing a fight to keep their star striker after finishing just four points above the relegation zone, and a transfer battle between Chelsea and Spurs is reportedly set to play out.
According to Brazilian website UOL, Chelsea want to start their revolution under new owner Todd Boehly by luring Richarlison to Stamford Bridge as the club look to find a replacement for out-of-form Romelu Lukaku following his disastrous return to London last year.
Conte wants Richarlison to join his potent attack, consisting of Golden Boot winner Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, after the Italian guided Spurs to their first Champions League finish in three years.
Richarlison is currently on holiday following the end of the Premier League season but is said to be interested in the projects at both clubs while apparently disregarding talks of a move to Arsenal.
The 25-year-old endured his one of his worst goalscoring returns since arriving in the Premier League, scoring just 10 league goals last season.
But strong interest remains from top European clubs with his current contract at Goodison Park expiring in 2024, and Chelsea and Tottenham are expected to be front of the queue.
Everton paid Watford around £40million for Richarlison in 2018 and Sportsmail understands the Toffees want in excess of £50m to help boss Frank Lampard with a busy summer transfer window.
Tottenham are currently reported to be in the driving seat for the deal but Chelsea’s recent interest could play to Everton’s benefit as the two clubs battle it out in the boardroom, hiking up the price.
Tottenham have looked to make an aggressive start to the window, wasting no time in snapping up Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan and, as Sportsmail revealed on Tuesday, agreeing a £25m deal for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.
Both PSG and Real Madrid were rumoured to be interested in Richarlison but Spurs and Chelsea look set to be the main contenders for Richarlison’s signature.
