Chelsea midfielder Drew Spence has joined Tottenham Hotspur on an initial two-year deal according to reports on the official website
The 29-year-old joins The Lilywhites on a free transfer following the conclusion of her contract at former club Chelsea. Spurs hold an option to extend Spence’s deal by a further year if they wish to do so.
Spence spent more than a decade with The Blues in which she made well over 200 appearances for the club in all competitions. The midfielder was a member of a Chelsea team that lifted no less than 13 major domestic trophies. Despite standards continuing to increase in her years in South West London, Spence always drove her own development forward and she continued to be a valued member of the Chelsea squad prior to her departure this summer.
The midfielder will now be hoping to kick on in her new adventure and help latest club Tottenham Hotspur win some silverware in the coming years.
After signing on at Spurs, Spence said “I’m really excited. It’s a new chapter for me. I’ve seen how much the team has progressed over the past few seasons, challenging teams at the top, so it’s the right move for me and somewhere where I can bring all my experience.
“I know how to win titles, I know what it’s like to be in a dressing room where there is a winning mentality every day and hopefully that’s something I can bring here.”
Spence becomes Tottenham Hotspur’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
