Chelsea are expected to make a second offer for Manchester City winger Raheem sterling, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues reportedly made an opening bid of €25m (£21m) plus add-ons for the England international, but Romano believes an improved proposal will be submitted once Romelu Lukaku has officially re-signed for Inter Milan:

“Chelsea have been in contact with intermediaries to weigh the deal. Their initial offer of £25m plus bonuses was definitely not enough for Man City. City would like a package in the region of €100-110m for Gabriel and Sterling combined so they want a lot more for Sterling. However, I was told that they are willing to let him go and Sterling would be willing to join Chelsea.”

“Therefore, an agreement is definitely possible. I expect Chelsea to try again once Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Inter is completed, which is imminent. All you have to do is report it. So Sterling is definitely doable for Chelsea.”

Sterling is believed to be Thomas Tuchel’s preferred target to strengthen his forward line, ahead of the likes of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Leeds’ Raphinha.

The 27-year-old, who has scored 154 goals in his senior career, has one year left on his contract, so we shall see if Chelsea do decide to match City’s demands for the player.

As Romano mentions, they are looking for around €50m (£43m) to sell Sterling, so the Blues will have to make a sizeable improvement on their first offer if they are to secure the former Liverpool star’s signature this summer.
