Brighton vs Chelsea; Match Preview and Injury Update

Advert!! (Post Continues Below)

Our Premier League campaign will kick off on Monday against Brighton and after the eventful transfer window we have had so far, I must say I’m very anxious to watch what these lads have in place for us and I’m sure most of the fans feel this way also.

With the introduction of some top European talents like Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva no team will write us off like most did at the start of last season when we lost Eden Hazard to Real Madrid and were unable to start sign any player because of the transfer ban.

Now there’s so much to expect on Monday and also the start of a reality check for us as Liverpool Manager, Klopp rightly said that it’s one thing to sign many top players at once and it’s another thing for them to learn how to play together quickly insisting that his Liverpool team have that advantage over us.

However fingers are crossed and one thing remains. The enthusiasm.

Let’s take a look at some details about the upcoming match under the following headings below.

What To Expect

Expectations are different for many persons. Most Chelsea fans think we will run riot but what is most likely to happen on Monday night away against Brighton & Hove?

For me, the match can turn out in various ways but I think we will come out victorious at the Amex Stadium tomorrow. We played against them last month in a Friendly and I think the first half was impressive when we had the likes of Ziyech, Werner and Hudson Odoi upfront. With Werner and Odoi fit and up for selection on Monday, they should be able to reproduce similar performance or even much better because they’ve had more time to train together since then.

Injury Update and Suspensions

Unfortunately the biggest setback for Lampard tomorrow will be the inability to field the players he wants due to numerous injuries and fitness issues currently.

Ziyech picked up a knock in his ankle during the friendly match against Brighton and Lampard comfirmed in his press conference that he won’t be fit for Brighton and might stay out for few more weeks.

Reece James unlikely while the likes of Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwel will be out due to fitness issues Lampard further comfirmed.

Let’s no forget Mateo Kovacic will not be featuring in the match due to suspension after the Croatian picked up a red card in Chelsea’s last England competition against Arsenal (FA Cup final).

However we now have a boost with Christian Pulisic who just returned to training after he picked up an injury against Arsenal in the FA Cup final and Lampard believes he is ready to make a return and will be up for selection on Monday. Latest signing Kai Havertz will also be available.

Strongest Possible Lineup

We might be hindered by injuries but truth be told, Lampard still has a formidable squad to choose from on Monday. Let’s take a look at the strongest possible lineup available.

Lampard has played 4-2-3-1 formation the most in Chelsea and with the players available, I think that’s the formation we will be seeing on Monday.

Wener played against Brighton in the friendly and scored. He also scored during his international outing with Germany so he is the obvious choice ahead of Abraham. Odoi can play both wings so he would fit in perfectly in RW replacing Ziyech. Pulisic has been explosive lately in the LW and will obviously take that spot.

the real dilemma comes in midfield with like likes of Jorginho, Kante, Barkley, Havertz, Mount and Loftus Cheek all available for selection but I think a midfield of Jorginho, Kante and Havertz will be the best choice.

Brighton work great on the counter and the presence of Kante will be needed in that midfield to break play and make interceptions alongside Jorginho who is not so good at that aspect. Jorginho can focus on settling pay and creating chances from deep.

Havertz have worked with Werner on international level and have trained together multiple times already so the familiarity will be needed in that attack.

For defense, Alonso is the obvious choice since Chilwel is out while Azpilicueta will maintain his main position at right back as James is unlikely to be available for the match.

For Central Defense, Christensen has had a good preseason and international outing while Antonio Rudiger will be the best fit to pair with him although Kurt Zouma is still so much fit and ready and could get the nod ahead of Rudiger.

  1. We have the confidence that we’re going to have our first 3point and we should forget that we had players that are not fit enough to play the game, tho we had enough to face brigton
