Match preview

Chelsea will travel to France to face Ligue 1 side Rennes in the Champions league tomorrow.

The blues who are currently top of their group have collected 7 points out of 9 between their first three games in the competition this season and will stand a chance to qualify for the knockouts with a win tomorrow.

What to expect

Rennes are a very good side especially at home but I think Chelsea have got the momentum they need currently to face any challenge put at them.

With the current form of Chelsea, we should expect nothing less than a win. As Timo Werner said earlier today, they want to qualify with this game and battle with Sevilla for first place in the next game.

The players knows how important it is to win this game and try to qualify as first from the group and I think this drive will make them go for all three points with seriousness.

It’s not going to be all rose and unicorns for Chelsea at France tomorrow but with the right determination and focus, the three points should be ours.

Injuries Update

Havertz & Thiago Silva Returns, Pulisic still out.

Lampard confirmed in his press conference today that Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz are available for selection against Rennes and will be looking to give them some minutes.

Thiago Silva missed Chelsea’s last game due to time and distance barrier as he travelled all the way from Brazil after the international break while Kai Havertz had tested positive for the Corona virus. The young German however tested negative from the virus few days ago and was cleared from isolation, and Lampard has confirmed that Kai’s fitness level is still sharp and will be featuring tomorrow tho he refused to say if he will be starting or coming from the bench.

Possible Lineup

With a major game and derby against Tottenham coming up next Sunday, we expect Lampard to perform some rotation in the squad against Rennes.

The Champions League still allows five substitutions in a match so most players won’t be allowed to be fatigued.

As for our predicted starting lineup, we expect Lampard to continue with the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Mendy is having an impressive run of games and will most likely continue in goal tomorrow while being guided by Rudiger and Thiago Silva.

We believe Kurt Zouma is due for a rest as well as Reece James who will be replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta.

Jorginho could be given a nod alongside Kante in midfield, with both just behind Mason Mount.

Ziyech, Odoi and Werner is the most likely front three with Abraham to be rested by starting from the bench.
