Chelsea returned to form after two defeats in a row to beat West Ham 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. Frank Lampard’s side moved back up the table with the victory, six points behind Liverpool at the Premier League summit.
The Blues were busy in the summer window, spending more than £200million as Lampard looked to build a side capable of winning the title.
But January could still see ins and out as he continues to put his stamp on the squad.
There have been winners and losers in the Chelsea team as they begin to get a settled starting XI.
With that in mind we take a look at the latest transfer rumours from west London with the January transfer window just round the corner.
Erling Haaland targeted
Much of Chelsea’s summer spending was on attacking talents, with Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz all arriving in west London.
And on top of all the arrivals, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham have both impressed as a central striker.
But reports have now linked them with the most sought after player in world football, Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian has only been with Borussia Dortmund since January of this year, scoring 33 times in just 32 games.
That’s meant that some of the biggest clubs in Europe have continued to be linked with him, with Chelsea the latest.
According to Sky Sport Italia Haaland, along with Declan Rice are Chelsea’s top two targets for 2021.
Barca in for Rudiger
Antonio Rudiger was widely expected to leave in the summer window, only to remain in Lampard’s squad for the first half of the season.
I can’t be satisfied with my situation, but the fight has been accepted,” he told ZDF. “What will happen in January is a long way off. I’m completely relaxed.”
And the Athletic report that Barcelona could turn to the German international in the upcoming January window.
Ronald Koeman is after an experienced, ball-playing defender and it is claimed the 27-year-old fits the bill.
Declan Rice latest
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is “convinced” Chelsea will make a second attempt to sign West Ham star Declan Rice.
The Hammers played hardball in the summer window, with Lampard unable to sign one of his top midfield targets.
But Romano believes the Blues will make contact with their London rivals in January, in the hope of finalising a deal.
He told the Que Golazo podcast: “Last summer, in September, when Chelsea contacted West Ham, they asked for €80million to sell Declan Rice, that’s why Chelsea said no at this moment we can’t pay this money, let’s see in January.
“At the moment, West Ham aren’t going to change their idea about the price of Declan Rice, so it won’t be so easy, but the new mentality of Chelsea with the transfers is that we just want our top targets, we’re not going for plan B or C, we have this new mentality it’s top targets or nothing.
“So, I’m convinced they will try again for Declan Rice in January.”
