Match Report

Chelsea were outclassed by Leicester City last night as they lost 2-0 to the now League leaders.

Leicester showed more composure and seriousness from the start as Wilfred Ndidi gave the foxes the lead after just 6 mins.

Chelsea tried to get back into the game but saw their chance from the spot overturned by VAR into a freekick.

Leicester immediately added another goal through Maddison after that incident to make the first 45 mins more sour for Chelsea.

After the break, Chelsea had more of the ball as usual but were unable to create anything tangible with it.

Leicester sit back and attacked from the counter and honestly, they were just unlucky not to have added to Chelsea’s misery.

Lampard responded by making a double change to bring in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner but the pair still weren’t able to influence the game as Leicester City remained compact.

Werner however did grab a goal towards the end from a set piece cross but it was later ruled as offside by VAR

Leicester’s three points now means they top Chelsea with 9 points and will top the League untill Manchester United or City plays.

What went wrong

It is hard to tell if the fault for the loss is from the coach as the players showed no substance at all.

Their movements, tracking back mentality, marking and positioning was very terrible and these made us concede two useless goals in the first half, something which could have been easily avoided with just a little show of more effort and determination.

With the absence of Kante, Lampard opted to use Kovacic as a DM while Odoi started alongside Pulisic at the wings after some beautiful display in recent match that earn him that start. However they were unable to produce that magic upfront as expected and were most times just too predictable.

Also we lacked creativity from midfield. No long forward decisive passes. In fact we could hardly get between the lines. We always end up playing the ball at our own half without any severe impact to break the Leicester City defense.

The fact that Kai Havertz had 0 shot and 0 chance created I think sums up the creativity in our midfield in that game.

Time and time again, Abraham and Pulisic make those runs behind their markers but no one is giving the pass even from deep. Rudiger attempted a few but he was always playing it at the wrong time.

Another major poor showing was from our the substitute Hakim Ziyech. Maybe he couldn’t have done much but definitely could have done better.

As a substitute entering a game where you’re trailing by two, everyone expects you to add fire, energy and creativity to boost the moral of the rest players and try to get a comeback.

Ziyech added none of these to the game when he came on and just maybe if it was Odoi being introduced for him as we have seen in previous games, we could have savaged something out of the game.

Guys what are your thoughts on the Match?

What went wrong? and What do you think about Lampard’s role in this loss?

  1. In my own view on our previous match, lampard was at fault,in d sense dat he is using previous Matches performance to judge d player dat will start for d next Match wich is not suppose to be so,we all know dat odoi is a game changer like Solomon kalau.if u start players like such attribute they perform to ur expectation.nd we know ziyech does not has that much strength so he supposed to start him nd all later sub him for odoi.moreover on d midfield issue,he can’t be pire mount nd havert together and expect good results from them it is just like combination of essien nd ballack,it can only work in second half depending on how game look not for starting.on the defense line Silva is d only man at dat central defense rudiger did even know we’re is playing on d pitch and also our wingers were not backing up for the left and right defense.

  2. I think the fornation been used is wrong…

How can you use 4-3-3 when we have such players….
Y not use formation like 4-1-2-3
Reece James,Zouma,Silva and Chilwell at the back
    Kante or Gorginho or Gilmour

    Then havertz and mount

And then use Werner,Giroud and Ziyech at the forward….

I still wonder why he hasn’t even thought of converting players like Pulisic to be 9 and see what he plays…

Also… What mentality has lampard given to the players about playing outside shots….

The mildfielders lack creativity and decision

  3. Those players lack understanding, and no confidence in them, no strength in them, and the coach is getting it wrong, his formation is not fitting the team, poor selection is causing some problem too,, to me I think the team is more than him, because if u can not tell them what to do, if you can not tell them there wrongs that means the team is more than you, stop defending them, when u know very well they are getting it wrong, secondly as a coach u must have a plan B, what I mean by plan B, ur formation, that 433, is not working, why not switch to other formation like, 343,4231.. If sacking lampard will be the solution to the team, they should do it.
