Chelsea may have just received a huge boost in their pursuit of Erling Haaland thanks to an ex-Arsenal academy player.
Fabrizio Romano stated last night that Borussia Dortmund were interested in PSV Eindhoven forward, Donyell Malen.
Romano also reported that Dortmund had begun talks with Malen’s agent, Mino Raiola, ahead of potential opposition from Premier League clubs.
Interestingly, Raiola also represents Haaland, Chelsea’s main transfer target.
What could this all mean for the Blues ?.
Of course, if BVB were serious in the pursuit of Malen, it suggests that they are preparing to part ways with their current no.9.
The PSV striker scored 27 times and provided 10 assists in 45 games last season.
This is slightly off Haaland’s return of 41 goals in 41 games, but its still amongst the finest tally’s in Europe.
So where do Arsenal come into the equation he was part of the Gunners youth system between 2015 and 2017, playing for several of their development sides.
He scored 11 times in 21 appearances for the Under-18s and seven in 24 for the Under-23s.
PSV’s reserve team snapped him up in 2017 and he has remained their ever since.
Unless Malen moves to Dortmund, of course.
They could seal the 22-year-old for £25m (90min), a splash in the ocean compared to the potential combined sales of Jadon Sancho and Haaland.
Any deals for the Dutchman may open the door for Chelsea to pounce and finally secure their main objective.
