Chelsea have been in discussions with Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku, according to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones.
The reporter claims that talks over personal terms have taken place with the Belgian international, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the forward, who scored 30 goals last season, will be moving to Stamford Bridge this summer:
“They have already made an offer to Lukaku in terms of [personal terms] and he knows that if Inter… if it does catch fire over there and everyone needs to jump off the ship… then he knows that City and Chelsea are there if he needs to speak to someone.”
It appears that Lukaku is very much the backup option at the moment, just in case a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland doesn’t work out.
There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes in terms of lining up an approach for the Norwegian international and the Blues are still convinced that the 20-year-old could leave Dortmund before the end of the transfer window.
Haaland is said to be interested in a switch to Chelsea, but a deal will very much depend on whether the London club have the necessary funds to meet Dortmund’s sky-high asking price.
