Chelsea are reportedly being linked with a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil defender Marquinhos, as head coach Thomas Tuchel aims to put his own stamp of authority on his team this summer.
The German is yet to make his first acquisition as Blues boss, in spite of replacing Frank Lampard back in January.
Although the manager has already enjoyed no shortage of success with the players available to him, it is only natural that he’d wish to put his own stamp of authority on the roster he inherited upon his arrival the capital.
It is understood that the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss wants to add a handful of fresh faces to his armoury this summer, with landing a new centre-forward his top priority.
But it also appears as though Thomas is interested in bolstering his central-defensive variants, given the links with Marquinhos.
According to a recent report by the Mirror, the Blues are keen on signing the 27-year-old and Tuchel wants to be reunited with him in west London.
Admittedly, the German successfully brought out the very best in his current crop of centre-halves during the second half of the 2020/21 term, but Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva are all out-of-contract next year, meaning there may be some thought going into the prospect of Chelsea topping up their defensive options ahead of the aforementioned stars reaching the latter stages of their respective deals.
But in an attempt to avoid being left short on options in that zone of the pitch, Chelsea may turn to Marquinhos, who is very well known to Thomas, following the latter’s time in the French capital.
