Romelu Lukaku says he wants to spend the rest of his career at Chelsea.

The 28-year-old Belgium striker has signed a five-year contract after returning to the club he played for 10 years ago. Chelsea have paid almost £100million to bring Lukaku back to the Premier League from Inter Milan.

On Wednesday he said: ‘It’s the right move for me for the rest of my career because, with a lot of maturity and experience, you come back as a player who can hopefully add something to the team. The coach wanted something different to add to the team. I think I’m different from all the players that he has.’

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel hopes Lukaku can bring his incredible Inter scoring record — a goal every game and a half — to Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku believes he has nothing to prove after his difficult two years at Manchester United between 2017 and 2019.

‘I don’t have to prove anything to anyone,’ he said. ‘I have experienced success elsewhere and also a different playing style where it’s more technical-based and tactical. The Premier League has a bit of everything and the experiences I had a few years ago were great.

‘I loved every minute of it but the experiences in Italy made me more complete as a player.

‘Watching the Premier League over the last few years, the players have got better, the teams have got better and I am ready for the challenge.’

Lukaku will wear the No 9 shirt and is available for Sunday’s game at Arsenal.
