What Thomas Tuchel said when asked if Werner and Lukaku can play together for Chelsea

With the arrival of Romelu Lukuka this summer it was a no brainier that Werner could see his playing time limited this season compare to last season.

Werner and Lukuka however haven’t been necessarily playing the same position in the past few years with there respective clubs. Werner is mostly deployed as a winger or 9&½ while Lukaku is predominantly placed at Top 9.

The idea that Werner once played alongside Tammy Abraham and Lukuka alongside Martinez at inter kept fans thinking maybe these two Lukuka & Werner could be dangerous while player together instead of substituting each other and clearly Tuchel feels the same way.

When asked about the possibility of Werner and Lukuka playing together in his press conference today ahead of Aston Villa, Tuchel said:

“Yeah, absolutely. I’m sure we will find games and solutions where we play both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku. They can be a good fit together.”

Thomas Tuchel however warned that Timo Werner would have to fights his way into the team for that to happen

Thomas Tuchel on Timo Werner:

“It’s important that he finds his confidence, rhythm and joy. The players are in charge of fighting for their position, and once they have it, to not give it away.”
