Chelsea comfortably defeated Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge according to the scoreline (3-0) with goals from Romelu Lukuka (2) and Mateo Kovacic (1)
Chelsea came out with a comfortable 3-0 win but that wouldn’t have easily be the case. Some brilliant defending from Thiago Silva and saves from Mendy especially in the first half ensured Chelsea stayed put however.
Chelsea new boy Saul Niguez was surprisingly in the Starting Lineup for the game and struggled in the midfield against a high intensity Aston Villa.
Saul lost possession of the ball carelessly multiple times, given Aston Villa a chance to attack and hurt Chelsea.
Tuchel made no hesitation by removing the Spaniard at the break and replacing him with Jorginho and as expected it was for the obvious reasons.
Speaking to SkySports after the game, Thomas Tuchel admitted it wasn’t an easy decision to remove Saul at half-time but it was obvious it needed to be done as the Spaniard looked lost and loss a lot of possession in dangerous positions.
What Tuchel Said;
Well, it was hard to do. I had the feeling he struggled.
“He had some big mistakes, passing mistakes and errors.”
Tuchel will be hoping Saul finds his rhythm quickly because with Kante still out due to Injury, he could be called upon again in the nearest future.
Chelsea will begin this season Uefa Champions League campaign this mid-week against Zenith before playing Spurs as their next Premier League game and Tuchel alongside the fans will be hoping Chelsea continue their fine start if the season in those matches.
