Thomas Tuchel has admitted his delight that Cesare Azpilicueta will not be leaving the club at the end of the season
Afte spending more than a decade at Stamford Bridge and helping the Blues to numerous Titles both domestically and in Europe, many believed that this would be the vert last season that Azpilicueta had at the club.
He was out of contract at the end of the season and looked destined to depart the and head over to Spanish football, where Barcelona were ready to offer him a nice big three-year contract
And that was further enhanced by the news that Chelsea would be unable to open contract talks, sign new players and let players leave the club at the end of the season while Roman Abramovic was still in charge and the club was not sold
However, The Blues skipper triggered a one-year extension to his Stamford Bridge contract which will keep him at the club for another season and Tuchel has opened up and admitted just how delighted he is that the Spaniard is staying.
Asked about Azpilicueta’s contract extension, Tuchel replied: ‘Yes, I knew it was going to happen because I knew the amount of games when it was going to happen.
‘It’s a good thing; it’s good news for us. We have a contract, he’s our captain, so there’s a very high probability that he will stay.’
